Jastarnia: 1st of July 2006
Since 1st of July, day by day for 2 long weeks, we were basking in the sun together with Justynka on the beaches of Jastarnia, Jurata and Hel. Long, sweltering hot days, scorching sand under the feet and moment of relaxation. We had a room in the city centre of Jastarnia. Everything was in close neighborhood: church, beach, railway station, shops, restaurants – complete luxury.
On one day, we decided to visit resistance line. It is a fortification consisting of several bunkers located something about 4 km from Chalupy. It is astonishing that beaches were completely empty in the area. In seaside resorts - towel next to towel, and there – the whole beach only for us.
Cold water was the only disadvantage. Honestly, water from the sea side was freezing, legs were turning blue after few minutes. Water was warmer from the bay side, nevertheless it was stinky and impure. We usually slept until noon. We used to eat local croissants and „Danio” yogurts on breakfast. Then, we used to apply suntan oil and go to the beach. There were also exceptional days, when we would go somewhere further, to Hel or Jurata. Once, we even decided to come back from Jurata by beach on foot. Evenings by the sea were most beautiful. The sea was intermingling with the sky wonderfully, their deep blues were merging to the accompaniment of setting sun.
In the middle of our stay, we decided to go to Gdynia by water tram. I have a godfather there, but I have not seen him for 19 years. We even stopped sending postcards to each other – our relations were slowly weakening. Indeed, we did not have a good chat and much time for a meeting. Storm found us in Gdynia and actually, we could have talk only for a minute. That is why, we decided to make a meeting on a next day, just to be together for a bit longer and to talk about what had changed in our families.
We went to the cinema at the end of the final day of our stay. We enjoyed “Dublerzy” – a Polish comedy with Grabowski. Delightful cinema, numerous autographs of movie and theatre stars on the walls. Everything was stylish. Auditorium not too big. Can You imagine to plan the evening in a better way? I don’t think so.
On the next day – it was Sunday, we set a meeting in Jastarnia after a mass. Lech arrived together with his wife and Grażyna. We went to Hel together. I had an opportunity there to swim for the first time.
I met a family living on the other side of Poland. They turned out to be quite nice. Extremely religious.
Summer of the century practically came to an end when we arrived home. August was not a good month to plan any trips. In July everything was subjected to gigantic drought, in August on the other hand it was raining heavily. What is more, villages on the south of Poland were suffering from flooding.
