Holidays started in rain. It was quite cloudy and wet in June and May. Weathermen together with highlanders claimed that true summer would start in the middle of August and would be short. Now, from the perspective of months I can say that they did not manage to forecast weather successfully, even including the margin of error they always use to shield their anticipations.

    Decision, that we are going to the lakes was spontaneous. We had various plans. There wasn’t anything concrete. Well, I made some simulations, quite serious ones from time to time, but actually I made a final step to plan our leave on 8th of July. I made a call to one of the resorts in Augustów. A guy who answered my phone said, that there was no free plaes from a long time, but informed me that there is accommodation near to the city centre of Augutów. I had never been in Augustów before. Apart from bad weather forecasts on television, we arrived on 11th of July already. Augustów seemed to be abandoned and devastated at first glance. As we later realized, only part of the city surrounding the railway station looked like that. Looking from behind the windows of a bus, as we were going to the centre, the city was much more beautiful and attractive. We had to go to Konarskiego street from Old Town, which was quite an achievement, because every person we met was a tourist who was completely unaware of the city’s topography. We met one local person at last, who explained us how to get to our lodgings as fast as possible. It was early in the morning. We left few minutes past 6 am. As a result we found ourselves in Augustów before nine. It was beautiful Saturday, the sun was heating up the atmosphere of our escapade. Thanks to detailed indications, we managed to get to the resort. We were welcomed by a young lady, who led us upstairs. We received great room. As we realized, house was a kind of small hotel in fact, prepared to receive several guests. There was a TV set, kettle, big bed, two bathrooms on the corridor. Simply great.

    It was first serious escapade in our life. We planned to stay there only for 4 days, but finally we spent there almost two weeks. Weather forecasts did not prove to be exactly successful. There is specific microclimate in Augustów. Everywhere was raining, but in Augustów rain was only in the morning. We had a great weather on afternoons.
