Being on the proffesional probation has its advantages, I could have leave work an hour earlier. At 3 p.m. I was at Justyna’s home. We talked over all things quickly and improved our plan. Zero hour – 7 pm, train station.
So it was. There was no queue at the train station, so I could unhurriedly ask for the details of connection again. As we had some time to the train’s departure, we went to buy some food for our trip.
Fortunately, express train to Warsaw wasn’t overcrowded. Unlike the train from Warsaw to Gdansk. As it turned out, the train departed from Krakow and was so packed, that the fact that we managed to get into could be named a miracle. I was worried at the beginning that we would be alone at the Warsaw Eastern station at the late hour. People say a lot of bad things about hooligans at stations at night. But it was safe there.

We arrived to Gdansk few minutes after 4 a.m. At first, we went to the information desk. The only sensible connection backward was at 2.50 p.m. We would have to wait for the next train till 0.50. Waiting at this train station was not definitely a pleasure. I’d rather omit the descriptions here.
We arrived very early. Walking through the old town, we saw the city awakening. The owners of numerous pubs were coming out idly inspecting the world around. Therefore we had to wait for true breakfast. So we went in the direction of Moltawa River, at the end of the tract, we sat on stairs and started to eat cheese sandwiches. It was still very early. The only dwellers of this place at this part of a day were cats, which were patrolling their spots, taking advantage of the fact that there were no tourists.
Walking into direction of old shipyard, along the shore, we found a bench. It was getting warm. We sat there and watched the world with drowsy eyes. At one moment, Justynka laid comfortably on my knees and fell asleep calmly. She was sleeping until 8 a.m. The traffic was getting intensified around. People were walking with their dogs, the deliverers were supplying the shops and pubs with various products, and the civic services were picking the trashes. We went back in the direction of Neptune. One of the pub’s owners informed us about nearby grocery shop. The significance of the information come out of the fact that the mineral water that we would buy from him would be five times more expensive than the one that we could buy in such grocery. Except for the mentioned water, we bought there a few donuts. We went to eat them near the huge church, as it turned out later it was St. Mary’s Basilica, the biggest one in the whole Poland. After the breakfast we set off to visit Gdansk.
We observed the crossings of numerous small streets, as well as old and stylish tenement houses on the both of their sides. Lots of pubs, craft’s houses, and the breathtaking colour of the old ornaments. Just like in the fairyland.

We were wandering through the streets admiring the beauty of surrounding places. At 10 a.m. we headed for the St. Mary’s Basilica. This is where, precisely in its tower, the viewpoint is situated. The tower itself, contains a great number of stairs. We were walking for about thirty minutes through the various combination of corridors, finally reaching the highest level. I got the felling, that certain parts – floors of this wonder of architecture, drew aside or vibrated. My legs started to shake with fear and my heartbeat quickened several times. It was impressive building. An amazing view onto the Gdansk’s panorama appeared from the tower. Finally we could see, from the certain altitude, the Baltic Sea, the shipyard, the old town, and many other places. It was fabulous, but a bit fearfully. It was good, that the viewpoint was thoroughly surrounded by grating and the wire net.

After we descended from the tower, we visited the church. Then, we decided to buy some postcards and send them to our families and friends. So we did. The weather was beautiful. Despite scorching heat, we could feel the fairly strong wind. On the promenade, the Dluga Street, - the central spot of the old town, a crowd of tourists was gathering. It’s amazing, that a couple of hours ago, no one but us was wandering there.
The time was going by, so was our trip. Eventually, we had to go back to the train station. Our way back was comfortable, because we were traveling by express train with reserved seats. We reached home at 9.30 p.m.
